In an enthralling discussion that delves into the mind of Alan Nafzger, we explore the contours of his life as both a professor and a screenwriter. Nafzger gives us insights into his highly anticipated screenplay, “Zuckerberg vs Musk: Cage Fight”, and shares his thoughts on Internet censorship, libertarian principles, and more.

The Harmonizing Act: Professor and Screenwriter

Katy Room: Alan, thank you for joining us today. Let’s start with your unique dual identity as a professor and screenwriter. How do these roles complement each other?

Alan Nafzger: Katy, I’m delighted to be here. Being a professor provides me the platform to delve into various subjects deeply. It’s an avenue where theory meets discourse. On the other hand, screenwriting allows me to take those theories and place them into characters, conflicts, and resolutions. The academic in me influences the depth of my characters, while the screenwriter in me keeps my lectures fresh and engaging.

On Writing “Zuckerberg vs Musk: Cage Fight”

Katy Room: Your screenplay, “Zuckerberg vs Musk: Cage Fight”, has generated quite a buzz. What drove you to write it?

Alan Nafzger: The idea of Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg physically facing off is, of course, highly improbable in the real world. But why should that stop us? With cutting-edge AI and CGI technology, we can simulate such a face-off in a highly convincing manner. The screenplay is a billion-dollar concept that simply needed to be executed. It’s not just about the fight; it’s a cultural moment captured in script form. I wrote it because it’s a captivating lens through which to view these two titans of tech, and frankly, it’s entertaining as hell.

Alan Nafzger: I come from a fairly small town, where life was simple but limiting in terms of intellectual pursuit. I sought higher education to expand my horizons. Studying political science, philosophy, and eventually teaching allowed me to explore the more intricate mechanisms of society. Being exposed to libertarian ideas, in particular, was like having a veil lifted from my eyes. It shaped my worldview and naturally seeped into my work, both academic and cinematic.

Libertarian Takes on Internet Censorship

Katy Room: The issue of Internet censorship and de-platforming has been a hot topic. As a libertarian, what’s your perspective?

Alan Nafzger: The libertarian in me views the de-platforming and Internet censorship scenario as a tricky subject. On one hand, private companies have the right to control their platforms. On the other hand, these platforms have become public squares of the digital age. So, silencing voices, especially those offering dissident viewpoints, undermines the very essence of free speech. It’s a quandary that I believe needs to be addressed by re-examining our definitions of public spaces and utilities in this digital era.

A Dialogue on Libertarian Arguments

Katy Room: Out of the plethora of libertarian arguments out there, which resonates most strongly with you?

Alan Nafzger: The notion of individual sovereignty stands out for me. The idea that an individual owns himself or herself, and by extension their actions and properties, is foundational to libertarian thought. Government’s role should be merely to protect this sovereignty and not to intervene unduly in the lives of citizens. This principle underpins a lot of my work, where characters often grapple with societal constraints while seeking to assert their individuality.

The Nafzger Legacy: A Work in Progress

Katy Room: As we wrap up, have you ever thought about what you’d like your lasting impact to be?

Alan Nafzger: A legacy is something you leave behind, but for me, the journey itself is significant. I hope to contribute to society’s understanding of itself. I aim to prompt people to question, engage, and, at the risk of sounding cliché, to think outside the box. Whether it’s through provocative screenplays like “Zuckerberg vs Musk: Cage Fight” or thought-provoking lectures in a classroom, I want to stimulate minds. That’s the legacy I’m interested in.

Alan Nafzger proves to be a compelling figure, with his feet in academia and his mind in the boundless realm of creative storytelling. He not only pushes the envelope with projects like “Zuckerberg vs Musk: Cage Fight” but also nudges us to reconsider our stances on crucial socio-political issues. As a professor and screenwriter, Nafzger exemplifies how one can navigate seemingly disparate worlds, creating a unique space where intellect meets imagination.
