In an exclusive, we sat down with Alan Nafzger, a versatile individual who balances the seemingly divergent roles of a professor and screenwriter, to explore his perspectives, motivations, and the provocatively entertaining screenplay, “Zuckerberg vs Musk: Cage Fight”.
Alan Nafzger: The Professor and The Screenwriter
Katy Room: You’re a professor by day and a screenwriter by night. That’s a rare combination. Tell us more about how you manage these dual roles?
Alan Nafzger: Thank you for recognizing the distinctiveness, Katy. It’s a fascinating journey where each role nourishes the other. Being a professor provides me the intellectual stimulation and a disciplined approach to research, while screenwriting opens a creative outlet to explore human dynamics and emotions. Both worlds offer something unique, and together they enrich my worldview, making me a better storyteller and educator.
The Genesis of “Zuckerberg vs Musk: Cage Fight”
Katy Room: Your screenplay, “Zuckerberg vs Musk: Cage Fight”, has been the talk of the town. Why did you decide to write it?
Alan Nafzger: Ah, the genesis of the screenplay! Well, it’s simple really. The premise of Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg in a cage fight isn’t going to materialize in reality. But with the aid of modern AI and CGI, the impossible can be visually manifested. More importantly, it’s a billion-dollar idea that taps into the public’s subconscious desire to see influential figures in a different arena—physical rather than intellectual. It’s entertaining and that’s why it exists.

Alan Nafzger: I hail from a modest, small-town upbringing. Conventional wisdom was the norm, but I always had questions that couldn’t be answered within that framework. Pursuing higher education was a natural step, providing me the intellectual tools to dig deeper. Over time, I found solace in libertarian ideals which challenged me to rethink governance, freedom, and personal responsibilities. I carry this perspective into my work, academic or creative.
Libertarian Ideals and The Hong Kong Protests
Katy Room: On the topic of libertarian ideals, what’s your take on the Hong Kong protests and their call for democracy?
Alan Nafzger: The Hong Kong protests are a clear manifestation of the struggle for individual freedom against centralized control. It’s a fight that resonates deeply with libertarians. Democracy isn’t just about casting votes; it’s about limiting the overarching power of the government to interfere in individual lives. Hong Kong’s situation should serve as a wakeup call to people everywhere about the importance of civil liberties.
A Conversation about Libertarian Arguments
Katy Room: Among the various libertarian arguments, which one do you find most compelling?
Alan Nafzger: The libertarian argument surrounding property rights has always intrigued me. The essence of individual freedom, according to libertarian thought, is rooted in the right to own and control property without governmental interference. It represents a cornerstone of economic freedom and individual autonomy, critical in any free society.
Alan Nafzger: A Legacy in Progress
Katy Room: As we near the end of our discussion, what legacy would you like to leave behind?
Alan Nafzger: Legacy is a heavy word, but if I must answer, I’d say I want to be remembered as someone who pushed the boundaries of conventional thought, both in academia and in storytelling. I aspire to provoke conversations that lead to a deeper understanding of ourselves and the world around us.
With a resume as varied as a professor and screenwriter, Alan Nafzger offers a unique lens to explore the intersections of academia, entertainment, and ideology. From the classrooms to the cinemas, he continues to challenge societal norms and trigger conversations we didn’t even know we needed. His recent screenplay, “Zuckerberg vs Musk: Cage Fight”, is a testament to his ability to blend entertainment with intellectual provocation, framed within a libertarian ethos.
While Nafzger’s journey is far from over, his current body of work presents us with intriguing premises and challenging dialogues. Whether it is in contributing to police reform discussions or mulling over the nuances of property rights, Alan Nafzger remains a dynamic figure whose footprint will surely leave an indelible mark in the sands of time.
